NUMS (National University of Medical Sciences) and PMDC (Pakistan Medical and Dental Council) MDCAT (Medical and Dental College Admission Test) are both entrance exams that students in Pakistan take to apply for medical and dental colleges. Here are some differences between the two tests:
- Conducting Authority: NUMS conducts its own entry test, while PMDC MDCAT is conducted by the University of Health Sciences (UHS), SZABMU, KMU ETEA, DUHS and BUMHS
- Syllabus: The syllabus for NUMS entry test is designed by the university itself and includes Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and English. In contrast, the PMDC MDCAT syllabus is designed by UHS and includes Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and English, as well as a section on General Knowledge.
- Exam Pattern: The NUMS entry test has a multiple-choice question (MCQ) format, with 180 questions in total. The PMDC MDCAT exam also has an MCQ format, with 200 questions in total. However, the PMDC MDCAT exam includes a section on General Knowledge, which is not part of the NUMS entry test.
- Marking Scheme: In the NUMS entry test, each correct answer carries one mark, and there is no negative marking for incorrect answers. In the PMDC MDCAT exam, each correct answer also carries one mark, but there is a negative marking of one mark for each incorrect answer.
- Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible for the NUMS entry test, a candidate must have a minimum of 70% marks in FSc (pre-medical) or equivalent. For PMDC MDCAT, a candidate must have a minimum of 60% marks in FSc (pre-medical) or equivalent.
